What we do

The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (RHDR) is unique. Opened by royalty, scene of steam races, happy holidays, wildlife reserves and nuclear power stations, historic castles and coastline – our heroes are eleven 90 year-old steam locomotives and a crew of staff and volunteers dedicated to the spirit of miniature mainline heritage rail travel.

To this day, the railway brings pleasure to hundreds of thousands, and has a unique and fascinating history.

The RHDR Supporters Association is a charity and our goals are to support the railway practically and financially, and to maintain a Heritage Centre. We want to see more people joining the existing volunteers who do everything from driving trains to helping the elves wrap Santa’s presents.

Association 50th anniversary headboard

We want people to join us so that we can work together to make sure the children and grandchildren (and the adults and grandparents) can enjoy the thrill of mainline travel in miniature for ever.

Will you join in with the hopes and enthusiasm that keep the RHDR steaming? The RHDR Supporters Association would love to have you as a member.

Membership carries many benefits: a quarterly magazine, “The Marshlander”, reduced rate travel, special trains and additional events. Click here to join.

As a registered charity the Association also offers a tax-efficient route for those who would like to leave a legacy, be it financial or a specific gift to the railway. If you would like to support in these ways, please follow this link for more information.

By membership, volunteering, donating (or all three) – please help us support this wonderful railway.
