RHDRA Roles and opportunities

OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE PART IN RUNNING THE RH&DRA

The RH&DR Association is run entirely by volunteers. To build on a successful year, the Trustees are now offering an opportunity for members to get involved with the workings of the Association and to join a great team.

We are looking for some help in key areas of the Association. Most aspects of the roles can be performed remotely provided you have a PC, laptop or tablet, Wi-Fi and a ‘phone and printer. You will have contact with several areas of the Association, our Members, and Railway staff, so must be able to get on with a wide range of people.

Depending on how involved you would like to be, your available time, and your particular interests, there may be the opportunity to combine some roles.

The Association Trustees have recently been reviewing and revising our practices. As charities are increasingly held to strict Charity Commission standards, Trustees are keen to ensure that we uphold the ethos of best practice for our organisation. So, to that end the following roles have arisen.

All the Trustees are volunteers, as are the roles below. The roles offer the opportunity to join a committed team and to get involved with the operations of the Association.

Assistant to the Treasurer

Somebody with accounting experience to assist the Treasurer in maintaining our financial systems and reporting. The Association does not employ anybody, and we are not registered for VAT so we don’t have those complications. Experience of using accounting software and expertise in Excel and Word are essential and the role can be fulfilled largely through remote working using Zoom, email and telephone.

Administration Assistant to the Trustees

Somebody to assist the Trustees in a regular voluntary capacity as a clerk to the Trustees, organising the administration of meetings. Experience of preparing and distributing papers prior to meetings, minute taking at meetings and preparing the minutes for distribution after the meeting is essential. Although some of the meetings are held remotely via Zoom, they are occasionally held face to face at New Romney. Expertise in Excel and Word is required – and an essential element is the requirement to observe strict confidentiality.

Assistant to the Membership Secretary

Somebody to assist with administration of our 2500 members as they renew, and to assist new members joining the Association. Membership is administered through Member mojo software. Previous experience of this is not necessary as training on the job can be undertaken. Expertise in Word and Excel is required. Other essential elements are to be able to deal with a wide variety of people and the requirement to observe strict confidentiality. The role can be fulfilled largely through remote working using Zoom, email and telephone.

Fundraising Assistant

The Fundraising Team is looking for some more help as we head into what we hope will be some exciting years. As we work with the Railway to support their plans, we also look at the Association’s own priorities in things such as Education and Heritage. We also need to firm up our plans for the Centenary. The railway heritage over the last (almost) one hundred years is enormous and we will need to plan what we can do to ensure it keep it going far into the future. So – the fundraising team would like to encourage Members with vision and ideas to join us in planning for our exciting future. You must be prepared to be hands on, attending Zoom meetings when necessary and engaging in planning and discussion.

Promotions and Events Organiser

The Association needs someone who is experienced in event organisation from conception to implementation. There are many event and communications tasks for which we currently don’t have enough resource and we are looking to someone with the experience and ability to take the lead, and maybe an assistant too, to help with general promotion of the Association and the Railway. We have a number of milestones coming up, not least the big Centenary celebrations in 2027. This role will involve working with all parts of the Association and the Railway.

If you are interested in any of the above roles, please let us have some details of your past and present experience, why you would like to get involved and your membership number. If you’re interested, please email us at [email protected] and we will arrange for a discussion to explore further.
